De eerste reacties op Midnight Mass zijn binnen, is het de moeite van het kijken waard?
Flanagan heeft naam voor zichzelf gemaakt in het horrorgenre, vooral toen hij debuteerde met Oculus in 2013. Sindsdien maakte hij ook films als Ouija: Origin of Evil en Doctor Sleep. En hij bracht ons series als The Haunting of Hill House en The Haunting of Bly Manor. Nu komt er weer een nieuwe serie van hem uit op Netflix.

Midnight Mass speelt zich af op een geïsoleerde eilandgemeenschap, genaamd Crockett Island.

De burgers daar raken compleet verdeeld als gevolg van de terugkeer van twee personen. Er is een in ongenade vervallen jonge man genaamd Zach Gilford en een priester wiens rol gespeeld wordt door Hamish Linklater. Die laatste lijkt verantwoordelijk te zijn voor grote wonderen die plaatsvinden, maar de wonderen zorgen ook voor een hoge prijs die de dorpelingen moeten betalen.
Critici en sommige kijkers mochten de serie Midnight Mass al zien en reageren op sociale media op de serie. Stephen King is bijvoorbeeld laaiend enthousiast, maar dat geldt ook voor acteur Elijah Wood en meer figuren:

#MidnightMass is a showstopper from start to finish and, I don't say this lightly at all, my favorite of the @flanaganfilm Netflix shows. It's brutal and deeply horrific while maintaining the specific brand of empathy and compassion Flanagan's creations have become known for.
